Dahlia Edition
The Dahlia Portraits play homage to the second most cultivated flower in the world. Originally from Mexico & Central America, known in náhuatl 'Acocotli' and 'Cocoxochitl,' having important uses as medicine and food in Mexica culture. This unique flower was sent to the Royal Botanical Gardens in Madrid, and named the 'Dahlia' after the Swedish botanist Andreas Dahl, who began cultivation while living in Denmark, inspiring the seed that would blossom into 'Dahlia Mania' across Europe. Each month, I share the Dahlia's unfolding history, and symbolism.
