Utuma Belfrey, a third generation Bayview resident, started an environmental technology firm as a sound business concept, but also as a way to help restore the environment in the Bayview Hunter's Point neighborhood of San Francisco. See this great video about her experiences as a small business owner.
Clifton Burch started his construction company mindful of the challenges in getting all the required permits, yet he knew confidentially that he would pass that step on his plan for business sustainability.
Inspired by the cycle culture of San Francisco and beyond, Kachusha, started Duey Brau, a biking accessory company, in the living room of his home before sales and production took off.
I was hired to take portraits for an article highlighting the success of three graduates from the San Francisco Renaissance Business Center whose businesses were succeeding and benefitting from the business management traning the Center offers. I attended the 14-week management course when I was charting the course of Flor de Miel Media. FJ Cava was the first person I met from the Ren Center, he really inspired me to invest myself first in the company by planning and managing my business from the start. The Renaissance Center was an incubator site for the Ebay Techquity grant - I could not have made it without the support of Ebay's Foundation. The grant, in combination with my savings through the EARN program, gave the start up capital I needed to purchase important tools that made it possible to start Flor de Miel Media in earnest.
